Kirtan | Devotional Music & Chanting

Devotional chanting with Oneder. Opens the heart, quiets the mind.

Kirtan | Devotional Music & Chanting

Kirtan is devotional call-and-response chanting that opens the heart and quiets the mind. Inner Peace Foundation hosts kirtan evenings featuring Oneder, blending ancient mantras with contemporary world music in South West Western Australia.

All are welcome – no musical experience or spiritual background required. Kirtan bypasses the thinking mind and speaks directly to the heart.

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is an ancient practice of devotional singing that bypasses the thinking mind and speaks directly to the heart. Through simple, repetitive chanting, participants often experience deep states of peace, connection, and joy.

Unlike performance, kirtan is participatory. The leader sings a phrase, the group responds. No musical ability required – just willingness to open and let sound move through you.

The practice originates in the Bhakti (devotional) traditions of India, but the heart-opening it offers transcends any single tradition. Sound is medicine.

Oneder Kirtan

Oneder brings a fresh, contemporary approach to kirtan, weaving traditional Sanskrit mantras with world music influences – African rhythms, Native American chants, Celtic melodies, and modern devotional songs.

The result is accessible, heartfelt, and deeply moving. Whether you're familiar with kirtan or have never experienced it, Oneder creates a space where the heart can open.

Oneder performs at Inner Peace Foundation events and retreats in the Dunsborough, Margaret River, and Perth regions.

The Connection to Satsang

While kirtan and Satsang are distinct practices, they complement each other beautifully. Kirtan opens the heart through sound and devotion; Satsang reveals what remains when the heart is open.

Both point toward the same recognition – that what you are is not separate from the whole. Kirtan approaches through feeling; Satsang through direct seeing.

Many who attend Satsang find kirtan deepens their practice. Many who come to kirtan find themselves drawn to explore Satsang. The paths support each other.
