This discourse provides the technical framework for shifting from identification with the mind's 'autopilot' to abiding as the Witness. Rohan explains that thoughts and emotions are transient phenomena, not intrinsic to who you are. By cultivating Direct Seeing, one moves from being a 'somebody' caught on the rollercoaster of conditioning to recognizing the ever-present 'something'—the aware space in which all experience unfolds. This is not a state to be achieved but a fact to be realized, serving as the doorway to Direct Realization and the cessation of suffering.
- In what moments do I operate as a 'broken autopilot,' reacting to thoughts and emotions without Direct Presence?
- Can I locate the 'witness' that is aware of my thoughts, or am I completely identified with the 'committee' in my head?
- When anger or sadness arises, do I become the emotion, or can I see it as a transient pattern passing through the system?
- What agreements do I have that reinforce the fantasy of being a separate 'I' living on a rollercoaster of conquests and self-pity?
- How does the addiction to 'garnishing the ego' prevent me from resting in the silence that is prior to all identity?
“There’s nothing to add. What you are is prior to beliefs, thoughts and labels.
Here we explore and unveil the ultimate mystery of non-dual being.

[00:00:00] The cosmic joke, how in the world did though, this many people get caught in this bullshit. Billions of people walk around thinking they're separate
[00:00:08] and competing with each other, when they're the same thing.
[00:00:16] In in its simple form it's
[00:00:19] it is the simplest of forms but the the simplest reference would be
[00:00:24] instead of thoughts just happening and you follow them and and you just live
[00:00:30] in the thoughts and moving from the thoughts and agreeing and disagreeing with yourself and others and just moving through the world from thoughts.
[00:00:38] It's actually the first, one of the first steps of it is is to notice that the thoughts are there and they're coming and going.
[00:00:46] So you move from
[00:00:52] a being that's
[00:00:53] following thoughts to and fro,
[00:00:57] do a being that's witnessing thoughts, come and go.
[00:01:04] and you can also maybe um,
[00:01:07] emotions instead of anger coming up and you being angry and moving through the world angry,
[00:01:12] anger can come up but you'll see anger has come up and you'll witness anger coming up.
[00:01:19] You won't be the anger or you won't be the sadness or you won't be the
[00:01:25] uh what what are the what whatever else is going on, whatever,
[00:01:31] uh the grief.
[00:01:34] You'll you'll be aware of it, consciously aware of it.
[00:01:39] Or something will be consciously aware of it.
[00:01:47] And so you know, for example anger comes and goes, so it's there then it's not, so it's not intrinsically true.
[00:01:54] Your thoughts come and go and sometimes there's a gap between them.
[00:01:58] So they're not ultimately true because they come and go and on top of that we don't know where they go to or come from.
[00:02:07] And and so intrinsically they're not real, but the witness is real because it's always here and when you recall your childhood or a moment in your childhood,
[00:02:19] it's the witness that's remembering that or seeing that.
[00:02:23] When you dream of a holiday or
[00:02:27] uh what's going to happen in two years or you know, the house is painted or whatever else is going on, at the end of it it's the witness that's envisioning that and seeing that. It's not you, a separate you.
[00:02:38] So it's a constant, it's always here.
[00:02:42] As long as the faculties are here witnessing is here but is witnessing
[00:02:48] here but are we aware of it or are we lost in the emotions, lost in the thoughts.
[00:02:55] Which are transient. They're not ultimately real.
[00:03:04] So the witness is what's aware of that.
[00:03:13] and uh not living as the witness,
[00:03:16] which is what we are, it's much closer to what we are than the thoughts or the emotions or the feelings.
[00:03:22] They're a long way off.
[00:03:24] The witness is closer to what we actually are or it's the doorway back to what we are. But if you could purely witness all the time
[00:03:33] and still interact through the world that's quite an advanced state.
[00:03:38] Though it doesn't sound like much it's quite an advanced state for somebody to attain.
[00:03:48] and and it's the ending of somebody too because at some point it becomes quite clear
[00:03:53] that these are just passing things through this sensory organism.
[00:04:04] Just like a bird flies by and makes a noise with its wings or or chirps it it becomes like this.
[00:04:11] Then the body mind this through the witnessing of the body mind
[00:04:15] you even start to get a bit of distance from that.
[00:04:19] And you see oh, I'm not the body mind. I'm what's aware of the body mind.
[00:04:28] Just like I you start off with I'm not the thoughts,
[00:04:31] I'm not these emotions, I'm not these feelings, I'm the witness of them. At some point,
[00:04:35] it it un slowly unveils that you're not the body mind either.
[00:04:47] But that's from inwards. I'm saying these words but these are inward discoveries in learning to remain the witness. These thing these discoveries arise.
[00:05:01] This is a temporary form, comes and goes. The witness
[00:05:03] is has a part of something much bigger that doesn't is unbound by time and space.
[00:05:18] and time and space
[00:05:21] for that let's call it time and space for something real for now is absolutely dependent on something else and it it it's it has a parent.
[00:05:31] but most people don't realize that. They live in their bodies, in time, in space, in mind, in thoughts,
[00:05:40] in activity, in conquests, and self pity. Just living a life in a in a rollercoaster
[00:05:48] unaware of the space around the rollercoaster and what it arises in.
[00:06:01] So witnessing is the the the stepping into that, into the seeing of that.
[00:06:07] Stepping from somebody into something aware of something.
[00:06:19] And you probably know very few people that are living this way, very few or or or have it at any constant level. That's why
[00:06:28] it can even sound like such a strange thing to fresh ears.
[00:06:35] Everybody's living as as as egos, identities,
[00:06:41] garnishing them as much as they can.
[00:06:48] Whereas the witness we we we're what we are prior to all that.
[00:06:59] And it it it's peaceful and it's restful and it's not a um zombiehood or anything. It's it's it's deeper level different deeper dimensions of reality.
[00:07:09] You're heading into reality now instead of the fantasy of the ego, of the I, of the separation, which is a bunch of a series of movements,
[00:07:18] series of ideologies,
[00:07:20] series of unchecked thoughts,
[00:07:23] series of following emotions and feelings everywhere.
[00:07:33] And we've been taught all that is somebody
[00:07:36] instead of what it is, patterns.
[00:07:44] We have no choice over, they just happen.
[00:07:50] So witnessing unveils that, or reveals that, the lie, reveals the lie.
[00:07:56] And it's simple, it's silent, there's no
[00:07:58] it's the end of beliefs.
[00:08:00] It's not
[00:08:01] you witness and then you discover um Neptune or this that and the other. It's it's purely
[00:08:07] here now experience.
[00:08:11] with whatever's happening.
[00:08:14] There's no uh dogma to be added to it.
[00:08:21] The dogma is identification really.
[00:08:24] You see? It's backwards.
[00:08:31] does it make sense what I'm saying?
[00:08:34] Yes.
[00:08:34] Okay.
[00:08:44] And so then people the witness state is meditation, you find it through meditation, you find it through mindfulness.
[00:08:52] You can through contemplation, but contemplation is engaging the faculties, the intellectual faculties and experiences to look deeper.
[00:09:02] But it really is using the brain against itself or the mind against itself a bit.
[00:09:08] But so,
[00:09:09] meditation and mindfulness are the most common paths.
[00:09:28] Self-inquiry, self-inquiry and contemplation can almost be put together really. Self-inquiry is who am I, what am I?
[00:09:35] Who do these thoughts arise to?
[00:09:41] Where do they come from, where do they go?
[00:09:44] They're very important questions to to find the answer of if you don't know it's and you're living a life, I think it's important to at least have some cursory understandings,
[00:09:54] or primitive understandings of all this just to have somewhat of a true life,
[00:10:00] instead of just the assumption, it's me.
[00:10:03] And I, and the suffering that goes with that.
[00:10:16] The good news is, our natural state to change through ongoing awareness and witnessing
[00:10:23] is is a very buoyant and upbeat one and very light and uh very very very very cool.
[00:10:29] That's good news that means uh, this is actually a cool place after all
[00:10:34] if if if truth feels wonderful that's good news, right?
[00:10:46] But even even you're caring of that drops away. It doesn't matter, like if it's not feeling great, it doesn't matter so much.
[00:10:52] If you're feeling great, it doesn't matter so much, it's just just things are as they are.
[00:10:57] But the default seems to be feeling very well.
[00:11:08] And blissful even.
[00:11:10] Sat Chit Ananda.
[00:11:12] bliss.
[00:11:21] Being consciousness bliss.
[00:11:24] very old phrase, right?
[00:11:32] They have words in the East that we take a sentence to say, they have one word for it because this is what they do, they know, they've been on this for thousands of years.
[00:11:40] It's this big strange mystery to the West but it's actually old information, very old.
[00:11:48] It's one of the reasons a lot of these countries don't develop very much because they understand there's a much deeper fabric so they're not so concerned about the materialistic side of things.
[00:11:57] So the West may frown upon a lot of those cultures but it's because they just don't care that much about materialism.
[00:12:05] They have deeper things they're more concerned about.
[00:12:29] And this vastness, this nothingness is incredibly alive and beautiful. Absolutely stunning.
[00:12:34] Very alive, very intelligent, very bright.
[00:12:44] Just like, just the rest you've been looking for the whole time and didn't know you were looking for it.
[00:12:52] You know like the the you know when you put your head on the pillow in the most when the the body's so tired or
[00:13:00] and just a beautiful beautiful rest. Like that but times 10.
[00:13:08] And ongoing.
[00:13:09] just like that.
[00:13:10] Just
[00:13:13] but you're not asleep.
[00:13:15] You're wide awake.
[00:13:18] That sigh of 'Ah'.
[00:13:23] That out breath.
[00:13:25] That let go.
[00:13:28] It's divine, it's beautiful.
[00:13:38] So so with witnessing comes awareness, you start to become aware, well, why am I thinking this, why am I doing this?
[00:13:48] And then the autopilot, you turn the autopilot off and you actually become
[00:13:54] the pilot.
[00:13:56] You're you're not a broken autopilot just doing whatever pops up.
[00:14:04] You get hold of the controls again and then at some point you realize you never had any controls in the first place.
[00:14:16] But people don't have any choice in it.
[00:14:18] The conditioning's going to let them hear or it's not.
[00:14:21] They're going to get disturbed and run or they're not.
[00:14:25] They're going to have bliss or they're not. you know, it's just
[00:14:30] so I just present the information. There's an energy field that the sensitive can feel here and but between that,
[00:14:38] those two things we can make great strides towards Big Self.
[00:14:46] That the energy here is the big self energy.
[00:14:50] So that soaks into the crystallized, uh, lockdown stuff and softens it all up.
[00:15:04] So it's super important to even if enlightenment's not your goal to at least be witnessing and seeing and living in the highest state you can, the highest consciousness you can.
[00:15:16] To not seek higher consciousness is absolute foolishness.
[00:15:20] And unfortunately the world is full of fools.
[00:15:25] It's just foolishness not to be seeking the higher.
[00:15:29] The deepest you can be into being.
[00:15:34] It's absolute ignorance.
[00:15:46] And I was guilty of that for quite some time, but I didn't know any better. Once you know better, you know better.
[00:15:52] Once you know it's available and it exists and there are people living in different dimensions of reality where you can't even tell by looking at them.
[00:16:01] you know what I mean? It's not everyone's not living through the world the same.
[00:16:06] And a lot and and people are moving through the world very deeply usually hide it very well because there's so many fools in the world
[00:16:13] that just want trouble
[00:16:15] and jealousies and all this crap.
[00:16:19] So they hide, and they look like everybody else.
[00:16:21] So they don't want to deal with the fuckwits.
[00:16:34] Well that's what it's like. It's that's the progress. So with witnessing comes awareness, you start to become aware, "Well, why am I thinking this? Why am I doing this?"
[00:16:48] And then the autopilot, you turn the autopilot off and you actually become
[00:16:54] the pilot.
[00:16:56] You're you're not a broken autopilot just doing whatever pops up.
[00:17:04] You get hold of the controls again and then at some point you realize you never had any controls in the first place.
[00:17:10] But that's later on.
[00:17:19] I was guilty of that for quite some time, but I didn't know any better.
[00:17:21] Once you know better, you know better.
[00:17:22] Once you know it's available and it exists and there are people living in different dimensions of reality where you can't even tell by looking at them.
[00:17:31] They're conditioned and this exact moment leads to this exact response and it can't be any other way.
[00:17:40] So the game we're playing is getting that conditioning into the highest state we can get it.
[00:17:47] And that's the point of this whole thing here, that's what this is.
[00:17:52] Whether people realize it or not that's the facts of what we're doing here.
[00:17:57] This is an evolutionary space, the earth is an evolutionary space and if you're not doing that then you're absolutely wasting this experience here. But,
[00:18:07] you have no choice in that either.
[00:18:14] people don't have any choice in it.
[00:18:17] Their conditioning is gonna let them hear or it's not.
[00:18:21] They're gonna get disturbed and run or they're not.
[00:18:25] They're going to have bliss or they're not. you know, it's just
[00:18:30] so I just present the information, there's an energy field that the sensitive can feel here but between that
[00:18:38] those two things we can make great strides towards big Self.
[00:18:46] That the energy here is the big self energy.
[00:18:50] So that soaks into the crystallized, uh, lockdown stuff and softens it all up.
GLOSSARY
- The Witness
Impersonal, ever-present awareness in which all phenomena (thoughts, emotions, sensations) arise and dissolve. It is not a person watching, but the foundational reality of the 'I AM'. - Autopilot
The default state of human conditioning where one is unconsciously driven by habitual thoughts, emotional reactions, and ingrained patterns without Direct Presence. - Ego-Structures
The collection of conditioned beliefs, memories, and identities that construct the illusion of a separate, continuous self—the 'somebody' persona. - Direct Seeing
The practice of observing the Mitoté (mental noise) as transient objects, rather than identifying with them as 'self.' This is the core mechanism of deconstruction. - The Rollercoaster
Rohan's metaphor for a life lived in reaction, chasing conquests and falling into self-pity, unaware of the silent background in which this drama unfolds. - The Cosmic Joke
The profound realization of how billions of beings, who are all manifestations of one consciousness, live under the delusion that they are separate and in competition. - Big Self
Unconditioned Consciousness; the vast, intelligent, and timeless reality that is our true nature, distinct from the small, conditioned 'self' or ego-structure. - Somebody vs. Something
The fundamental ontological shift from identifying as a 'somebody' (a person with a history and problems) to recognizing oneself as the 'something' (the aware space) in which that person appears. - Gateless Gate
A Zen term describing the transition to Direct Realization. It is not a gate one passes through, but a sudden shift in perspective where the old self-structure is seen as illusory. - Crystallized Lockdown Stuff
Deeply ingrained energetic and psychological patterns of conditioning that create a rigid sense of self and require the presence of a Realized Guide to soften and dissolve.
