🎵 OM ARUNACHALA OM LIVE 2023 // ONEDER // Live Kirtan Performance at Conscious Craves

In This Video:

This is not a conceptual teaching, but a direct transmission through sound. The mantra 'Om Arunachala Om' is a devotional tool used to quiet the thinking mind and allow you to rest in the substratum of Being. It is an invitation to move beyond intellectual understanding and into the direct, felt experience of presence. This live kirtan performance is an excerpt from a Satsang, a meeting in the non-dual truth of reality.

  • Can you allow the sound of the chant to wash through you without the mind needing to label or analyse it?
  • What is present here and now when the 'story of me' is temporarily suspended by the mantra?
  • Where does the sound originate from, and where does it dissolve back into? Can you feel that silent source?

TRANSCRIPT

[00:00] (Kirtan Performance: Om Arunachala Om) [Editor's Note: The following text is from the video description, as this is a musical performance without a spoken transcript.] Satsang means “Meeting In The Non-Dual Truth of Reality.” It is being in the presence of an enlightened teacher and experiencing their peaceful energy to discover our true, non-dual nature. Uncovering the deep beauty within us via higher consciousness and transcending the separate idea of 'I' or 'me'. Many techniques are used such as Meditation, Self Inquiry, Inner Investigation, Movement and most importantly, being in the presence & wisdom of an Enlightened Being. True enlightenment can't be fully explained with words. Rohan's sharings come from 'his' direct ongoing Enlightenment experience, proven teachings, and what he's learned from other enlightened masters. Note that authentic enlightened teachers have an energetic light about them that can be directly experienced. If a teacher doesn't have this, they might not be the real deal and CAN NOT 'take you home'.

GLOSSARY

  • Live Transmission
The energetic and contextual passing of truth from a teacher to a student. It's the lifeblood of Direct Path teachings, something that cannot be captured in written words.
  • Written Words are Dead
Rohan's caution that spiritual texts, detached from a living teacher, lack the life force for transmission and are easily misinterpreted by the ego to build a new identity.
  • The Masses are Mad
A phrase highlighting the tendency for collective consciousness, even in spiritual circles, to follow diluted, ineffective, or ego-driven trends instead of undertaking true inner work.
  • Diluted Teaching
Generic spiritual advice given to large audiences. It must be watered down to be palatable for everyone, losing the surgical precision required to dissolve an individual's patterns.
  • Mystery Schools
Ancient traditions that prioritized small, private settings for transmission because the work of awakening is deeply personal and cannot be done on a mass scale.
  • Face or Defend
The fundamental choice presented when any inner material arises. One can either gently investigate the pattern with awareness ('face it') or resort to habitual avoidance mechanisms ('defend').
  • Mood of the Warrior
A Toltec-inspired inner posture for self-inquiry. It is not aggressive but a gentle, steady, and courageous awareness used to understand and dissolve inner patterns without judgment.
  • Feel to Heal
A core instruction to bypass intellectual analysis and directly experience the energetic sensations of emotions or trauma in the body, which is the direct path to their dissolution.
  • Drop the Bags
A directive to consciously and repeatedly let go of the accumulated weight of past traumas, grievances, and limiting beliefs that one unconsciously carries.
  • The Quiver
A metaphor for an individual's personalised toolkit of spiritual practices. Like arrows, some tools work better than others depending on the person and the situation.
  • Tamas to Sattva
A shift in inner states based on the gunas from Hindu philosophy. It is the process of moving from a state of inertia, heaviness, and darkness (Tamas) to one of balance, clarity, and light (Sattva).
  • Satsang
Literally 'meeting in truth.' Not a lecture, but a direct meeting in the non-dual substratum, often in the presence of a teacher who has realised this truth, to facilitate your own recognition.
  • Kirtan
A devotional practice of call-and-response chanting. It uses sound as a skillful means to bypass the conceptual mind (The Committee) and drop attention into the heart-space, the field of presence.
  • Arunachala
A sacred mountain in India, deeply associated with the sage Ramana Maharshi. It is revered as a physical manifestation of Shiva, representing the silent, unmoving Self or absolute reality.
  • Mantra
A sacred utterance or sound used in meditation to focus the mind. It functions as a tool to interrupt habitual thought loops, allowing the practitioner to rest in the silent awareness beneath them.
  • Direct Transmission
The communication of truth that occurs beyond words. It is the resonance of the teacher's realised state, which can be directly felt and can accelerate the student's own recognition of the Self.

Q&A

  • Why are spiritual books considered a dead end?
Rohan teaches that written words are dead because they lack the live transmission and context of a teacher. The egoic mind can easily misinterpret texts, accumulating knowledge as a new identity instead of facilitating genuine Self-Realisation.
  • What is the difference between live and written spiritual teachings?
Live teaching is a direct, energetic transmission tailored to the individual in the moment. It's a surgical tool. Written teachings are generic and static, unable to adapt to the seeker's unique conditioning or bypass their intellectual defenses.
  • How can large spiritual gatherings dilute the teaching?
In a large group, a teacher must speak in generalities to be understood by everyone. This dilutes the message, losing the focused, personal precision required to unlock an individual's specific patterns of suffering.
  • What are the two choices in spiritual awakening?
When inner pain or a difficult pattern arises, your only two choices are to face it or defend against it. Facing it means gently approaching it with awareness. Defending involves avoidance tactics like distraction, hiding, or intellectualising, which only adds more weight.
  • What is the 'mood of the warrior' in spirituality?
The 'mood of the warrior' is a Toltec concept for approaching inner work. It's not aggressive, but a state of gentle, resolute awareness. You learn to understand the inner 'enemy' or pattern, not to fight it, but to see it clearly so its power dissolves.
  • How can I stop avoiding my feelings and 'feel to heal'?
Start by learning to surrender, using tools like the out-breath to shift your state from inertia (Tamas) to clarity (Sattva). Instead of running from discomfort, you consciously choose to stay with the sensation without a story. This builds the capacity to heal directly.
  • Why is having a spiritual 'toolkit' important?
A personal toolkit, or 'quiver,' contains practices that you've proven work for you. By gathering the most effective tools from various traditions, like Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, you accelerate your own path instead of staying stuck in a dogma that may not serve you.
  • What is the meaning of Satsang?
Satsang literally means 'meeting in the truth.' In this context, it refers to being in the presence of an enlightened teacher to directly experience the non-dual reality. It is a method of uncovering your true nature beyond the separate idea of 'I' or 'me' through various techniques like meditation, self-inquiry, and direct transmission.
  • How does chanting a mantra like 'Om Arunachala Om' work?
A mantra is a tool to bypass the constantly thinking mind. By focusing on the repetition and vibration of the sound, you give the mind a single point of focus, starving the usual thought loops of attention. This allows you to drop into the silence and presence that is always here underneath the mental noise.
  • Can enlightenment be understood with words?
No, true enlightenment cannot be fully explained or captured by words. Words are concepts that can only point towards the truth. Direct realisation is an experience, a recognition of your own nature that is prior to thought and language. The teachings are pointers, not the destination itself.

“There’s nothing to add. What you are is prior to beliefs, thoughts and labels.
Here we explore and unveil the ultimate mystery of non-dual being.
Reality.”
