This isn't about becoming more 'spiritual'. In fact, the label 'spiritual' often means you're not seeing what's actually here. My work is about being a reality teacher. It’s a process of removing the perceptual filters—the distortions that cause suffering—so you can see life as it is: bright, clear, and beautiful. We don't add new beliefs; we remove the biases that obscure the truth.
- What happens if you drop the label 'spiritual' and simply look at what is real in your direct experience right now?
- Can you identify one 'filter'—a strong belief or judgment—that colours how you see the world? What would things look like without it?
- When was the last time something just 'hit' you, and a long-held view suddenly dropped away? What did that clarity feel like?
TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:01] Actually, it's reality. I'm a reality teacher. It's only spiritual if you're not in reality. [00:00:13] It can be like a wall because we're so firm in our seeing and our filters. It's like we're wearing dirty filters over our eyes, so you can hear something, but you can't *hear* it because your filters are so strong, it just passes by. And at some point, boom, it hits. 'Oh my god, that's what that means. Oh, I see that now.' [00:00:26] And it's just a revelation, a mini revelation. This tint of reality can drop off, and you can see clearly. The colours come brighter and clearer and more accurate, and life gets more beautiful, you know? [00:00:47] It's like the Speedway riders. There was so much mud they wouldn't be able to see, so they'd have these strips on their visors, and they'd just peel them off. So it's like that. You just keep removing and, oh my god, there are no filters anymore, and everything's really cool. It's really cool. [00:01:24] Reality is the best thing ever. It really is. It's the distortions that kill us, that hurt us. Reality is incredible. [00:01:34] It's not spiritual. See, people would say I'm a spiritual teacher, and I'll even say that just because that's what people understand. Again, that's the filters I'm dealing with. But actually, it's reality. I'm a reality teacher. [00:01:49] It's only spiritual if you're not in reality. I assist people to un-bias reality. I'm not a teacher of anything. We're just working together.
GLOSSARY
-
Reality Teacher
One who assists others in seeing reality directly, without the distortion of concepts or beliefs. This is distinct from a 'spiritual teacher' who may add layers of ideas, rather than removing them. -
Filters (of Perception)
The collection of beliefs, conditioning, and judgments that colour our experience, like 'dirty filters over our eyes'. In the Toltec tradition, this contributes to the 'Mitotē' or fog of the mind. -
Un-bias Reality
The practical work of seeing and dismantling one's perceptual filters. It's not about learning a new system, but about removing the biases that prevent one from seeing what is already here. -
Mini Revelation
A sudden moment of clarity or 'boom' where a perceptual filter drops and a deeper truth is seen directly. This is the mechanism of Direct Realisation, happening in small, cumulative shifts. -
Distortions
The painful and confusing effects caused by our filters. All suffering arises not from reality itself, which is incredible, but from the distortions we project onto it.
Q&A
-
What is a reality teacher?
A reality teacher assists people in 'un-biasing' their perception to see life directly, without the distortions of belief systems. Unlike a 'spiritual teacher' who might add concepts, a reality teacher focuses on removing the perceptual filters that cause suffering. -
Why do you say being 'spiritual' can be a problem?
The term 'spiritual' often implies being out of touch with what is actually happening. It can become another conceptual filter or identity. The work isn't about becoming spiritual; it is about becoming grounded in reality, which is direct, clear, and inherently beautiful. -
What are the perceptual filters that distort reality?
Filters are strong beliefs, conditioning, and judgments that act like 'dirty filters over our eyes.' They prevent us from hearing and seeing clearly. The accumulation of these filters creates the mental noise or 'Mitotē' that obscures the truth of our direct experience. -
How can I remove my filters to see reality more clearly?
Removing filters is like a speedway racer tearing off muddy strips from their visor. Each time a belief is seen through, a 'mini revelation' occurs. This is a gradual process of seeing each distortion for what it is, allowing it to drop away and reveal the clarity beneath.
