In This Video:
The separate self you believe yourself to be is a cosmic joke. The running, the seeking, the suffering—none of it is a mistake. It is simply Beingness that has deliberately forgotten itself for the fun of rediscovery. This talk invites you to step off the hamster wheel of conditioned thought and social expectation. By facing the root fear of death and finding the deep strength of inner silence, the heart naturally opens, and you can begin to truly live as the one awareness you already are.
- When you stop running, what is the first thing you notice inside your own system?
- In what ways are you playing the roles of the hamster, the wheel, and the cage in your own life?
- Can you feel the difference between the loud noise of the mind and the silent strength that holds it? Which do you trust more?

[00:00] It's the cosmic joke. And when you see it, you just see it. Oh my goodness. What is everybody doing? Running around. Where are they going? When will they get there? [00:34] But none of this is a mistake. None of this separation and this so-called suffering and these so-called problems are a mistake. It is simply, let's use the word God, or Beingness, that's deliberately forgot itself for a bit of fun. For the fun of re-finding itself again. [01:38] And then when you see it, you see that it's all just you. Straight up, it's all just you. It's just you, looking at you, talking to you, pretending to be separate from you. And when you really see that, it's game over. [04:15] As your consciousness widens, things lose their solidity. And this is science. It's all light now. It's all light. It's one light, it's just one thing. There's no separation anywhere. [05:19] You've got to get off the hamster wheel. The hamster wheel is domestication and socialization. You have to stop. And when you stop and you turn and you face the fear of death, which is what's running the whole show, then you can truly start to live. Because all the other little fears, they just drop away. [06:31] Then the heart just naturally opens. You don't have to practice loving-kindness. You just are that. And then what's here just wants to share and just wants to give. It's not taking anything. [09:13] And what you discover when you get off the hamster wheel is you're the hamster, you're the hamster wheel, you're the cage, and you're what it all arises in. And when you see that, the cage disappears. [11:19] Can you get off the hamster wheel? Can you stop? When you stop, you'll start to hear the tiny, silent thing in the background. Keep stopping. [12:25] The loudest person in the room is the weakest. Look for the silence. And then a quietness is your deepest strength. Recalibrate and do surrender.
GLOSSARY
-
Non-duality
The direct recognition that the sense of a separate 'me' is an illusion. It is seeing that all of existence is one single, undivided consciousness appearing as many different forms. The Advaita Vedanta tradition points directly to this. -
The Cosmic Joke
The ultimate punchline of Self-Realisation: seeing that all suffering and seeking was just a game that consciousness was playing with itself, pretending to be separate for the fun of rediscovery. -
The Hamster Wheel
A metaphor for the conditioned cycles of thinking and doing imposed by society and habit. It's the state of 'running' that drains our energy and prevents the recognition of our true nature. -
Beingness
The universal 'I Am' or substratum of reality, prior to identity or form. It is the one consciousness that appears as everything, what some traditions might call God or Brahman. -
Surrender
Not a passive giving up, but an active recalibration towards the silent substratum of your being. It's the letting go of the egoic mechanism's need to control and trusting what is already here.
Q&A
-
What is the 'cosmic joke' in non-duality?
The 'cosmic joke' is the direct realisation that the entire story of being a separate person who suffers is an illusion. It's the recognition that universal consciousness, or Beingness, deliberately pretends to be separate simply for the experience of rediscovering itself. -
What does 'getting off the hamster wheel' mean spiritually?
Getting off the hamster wheel means stopping the repetitive, conditioned cycles of thinking and doing driven by social programming. It is the conscious act of disengaging from the mind's endless running to conserve energy and discover the silent awareness that is always present. -
Why is suffering not considered a mistake in non-dual teachings?
In non-duality, suffering is not a mistake but a vital part of the cosmic play. It's the friction created by the illusion of separation that prompts the seeker to look deeper, ultimately leading back to the realisation of the unified Self, or Beingness. -
How can silence be a strength?
The mind's noise is often a sign of weakness and confusion. True strength comes from the silent, unmoving background of awareness in which all thoughts and feelings appear. By connecting with this inner quietness, you access a stable foundation that is unshaken by life's circumstances.
